SWOPES LAW OFFICE
I have been a resident of the Wabash Valley since 1987. I graduated cum laude (with honors) from Indiana University School of Law, Bloomington, Indiana in 1997, and became a member of the Indiana Bar that same year.
Upon graduation, I embarked on a career in trust and finance, administering complex legal and financial issues for trust companies, banks and a brokerage house, and served as the head of a trust department.
As much as I enjoyed my time in trust and finance, I wanted to be in the courtroom, so I accepted a position as a Deputy Prosecutor for Child Support, where I routinely attended 80 - 100 hearings per week.
Due to my thorough preparation and aggressive representation, child support collections increased by 9% in the last nine months of my tenure at the Prosecutor's Office, which was double the state average for the same time period.
In 2004, I became a registered Family Law Mediator and opened my own law office. I specialize in family law matters such as Divorce, Child Custody, Parenting Time, Child Support, Paternity, Adoption, Grandparent Visitation, Guardianships and Mediation.
I am a member in good standing of the Indiana State Bar, and of the Family Law Section.
I am a Registered Family Law Mediator and the President of the Dispute Resolution Center for the Wabash Valley. In my practice, I have found that many family law matters are more effectively resolved through the use of mediation.
I am a past President of the Volunteer Action Center , a past Secretary of the Estate Planning Council of Central Illiana, a past board member of the United Way of the Wabash Valley, a past Secretary of the Paris, Illinois Rotary and a past member of the Terre Haute Rotary.
